The GPS thing is actually not just software, because the turn by turn directions are not coming from Google Maps, and are actually generated using an offline maps database that they licensed from some third party company. I beware of DCS. Maybe the newer ones are better, but I have one in my house that I inherited from the previous owners, and it been a nightmare. To be fair, that does paint a bit of a skewed picture though; CR last survey went out around the time the Model X had just been released, which dragged down the brand reliability rating substantially since they were still working out the kinks. The latest CR reliability score for the Model S is “average” (which doesn sound so hot, but is an improvement from past model years, and is actually pretty good for a low volume luxury sedan with so many bells and whistles).
